The Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) was launched on 20th October 2000 in Kampala.
The occasion was presided over by Prof. Edward Rugumayo, Minister of Tourism, Trade and Industry.
The Academy is now fully registered with a constitution that binds its members. |

About Us :
UNAS brings together a diverse group of scientists from the physical, biological and social/behavioral sciences, working together in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary manner.
Vision:
"An eminent body of Scientists offering independent merit-based advice for the prosperity of Uganda."
Objectives:
- Provide an independent forum through which scientists can exchange ideas, knowledge and experiences.
- Promote and foster the growth of the scientific community in Uganda.
- Encourage, stimulate, design and coordinate interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary scientific research and development.
- Get involved in the planning, convening and co-ordination of scientific education programmes and help in the development and nurturing of high-level scientific and technological manpower in Uganda.
- Establish a regular award scheme for recognition of outstanding achievements in science and to advocate for proper, safe and ethical exploitation of science and technology in national development
Organisation Structure:
UNAS consists of the following organs:
- The General Assembly
The supreme body of UNAS consists of all members as defined in the UNAS constitution.
- Executive Council (EC)
Supervises and oversees the implementation of the vision, mission, policies and functions of UNAS. The EC oversees the running of the UNAS Secretariat.
- The Secretariat
Implements UNAS’s programme and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the operation of UNAS. It is headed by an Executive Secretary.
